Robert Mondavi Woodbridge Sweet White
|Region||California, United States|
|Grape||Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Viognier, Verdehlo|
|Brand||Robert Mondavi Winery|
The 2011 growing season began with a slow start, due to above-average rainfall in California. However, springtime growth was only slightly behind the historical average. Continuing into summer and fall, mild weather resulted in smaller-than-normal cluster weights and below-average yields, making the fruit flavors more concentrated and intense.
Grapes for this Sweet White blend were sourced from premium California vineyards, grown with ample sunshine during warm days, and tempered by cool evening breezes to develop the grapes’ fruitiness. Grapes harvested from the Central Coast and North and South Valley AVAs allowed crisp fruit flavors and a nice amount of natural acidity to shine through in this wine.
After harvesting, we pressed the grapes gently to preserve the purity of the juice. To maintain the quality of the fruit, we cold-fermented the grapes used in our Sweet White in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. To retain the wine’s fruity character, it did not undergo oak aging. We then blended several of these aromatic white varieties together to enhance the fragrant aromas and add complexity to the flavors of this sweet blend.
The newest wine in the Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Portfolio, this lively Sweet White blend is the perfect addition to springtime picnics or outdoor summer cocktail parties. This proprietary white blend is highlighted by aromatic white grapes, resulting in sweet citrus flavors of tangerine, orange blossom and grapefruit. Notes of green apple and white fig shine through to round out the flavor profile of this wine.
Robert Mondavi established his namesake winery in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. He chose To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for Robert Mondavi Winery. This first-growth vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr. Mondavi crafted his signature wine, Fumé Blanc.
Along with To Kalon Vineyard, Robert Mondavi Winery sources grapes from some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards, including Stag’s Leap (Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc) and Carneros (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay).
Mr. Mondavi believed that wines should reflect their origins, that they are the product of the soil, the climate, and the careful stewardship of those precious resources. He also believed in combining the newest techniques and technology with time-honored winemaking traditions.
