Selected Vineyard
Our vineyards are assigned block numbers to identify them as they are planted. Block 007 refers to one portion of our vineyard located a mile west of the winery, on the eastern bench above Dry Creek and has caught the attention of our winemaking team because it consistently produces fruit
of singular quality.

Block 007
Of the 105 acres we have planted to vineyard, we grow a total of 18 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. We first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in the early 1960s. Block 007 was replanted in 1992—on the Scott Henry trellis system which splits the cordon arms into a double tier with the upper arm usually bearing about 3 tons of grapes per acres while the lower arm bears about 2 tons per acre. This is for optimum ripeness. The vineyard land is well drained, right next to Canyon Creek where it is gravelly and ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon.

Block 007 was picked on October 6. From an ideal growing season with mild temperatures and opportune heat spikes to get the grapes to full maturity. Yields and fruit quality were exceptional. The fruit had exceptional color, flavor, and quality. We fermented the grapes in our small capacity tanks, giving optimal skin/juice ratio and getting better extraction of flavor and color. Following fermentation and pressing, the young wine was transferred to small French and American oak barrels to age for sixteen months with 30% new French oak.

Tasting Notes
Dark maroon color in the glass. Aromas of plum, blueberry and toasty oak follow through on the palate with hints of eucalyptus. cocoa and black pepper. Solid tannins framing the wine lead to a long finish that is simply elegant. The concentrated flavors and great structure point toward great aging potential. Obviously this wine has no connection to a world famous British Special Agent. It’s simply the name of a vineyard block…Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyard and a small winery in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family’s dedication to making fine wines.

  • From selling grapes to home winemakers during  prohibition in order to keep the vineyards going,
  • to growing a small base of business during the 1930s and 1940s,
  • to the second generation joining their father: son John becoming winemaker in 1948 followed by Jim in 1955 as sales director,
  • to 1963 when the winery was officially purchased by John and Jim from their father,
  • to growing the line of wines in the 1960s with vineyard expansion and diversification,
  • to the boom time of the 1970s and 1980s along with many changes and additions to our sales base including national sales and export,
  • the third generation coming on board and vineyard replanting in the 1990s
  • to the 21st century where the fourth generation is coming up the ranks…
and it is still a family owned business.

It all adds up to tradition, heritage and a family of wines you can enjoy with confidence.
